DACHSHUND READING

The library has commenced a new reading program called 'Dachshund Reading'. Seven dachsunds visit the library each week and listen to the students read. The dachshunds are very patient listeners and have formed a bond with the students. There is a real sense of connection between the dogs and the readers. The students are working alongside the dogs to improve their fluency, inference, comprehension, vocabulary, writing, questioning and skim reading.

The dachshunds are becoming very familiar guests in the library. They love to sit on the comfy lounges and go for a walk around the book shelves. Their good behaviour is rewarded by the readers giving them doggy treats.

We are very fortunate to have Jean Ballands and Carol Stromheyer and the dachshunds commit to the reading program at MacKillop library.
