Curriculum

The NSW Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES) determine mandatory courses that all secondary schools in the state must complete.  St Paul’s offers students the opportunity to study a range of electives in Years 9 to 10.

YEARS 7 & 8:

Students study the following compulsory subjects:

  • Religious Education
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • HSIE - Year 7 World History - Year 8 World Geography
  • Personal Development, Health, Physical Education
  • Technology
  • French (Year 7)
  • Music/Visual Arts - 1 semester of each in Years 7 & 8
  • Technical Skills, Textiles Technology, Food Technolgy, Drama, French, Enterprise (Year 8 Electives)


YEARS 9 & 10:

Students study the following compulsory subjects:

  • Religious Education
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Civics & Citizenship - Australian History and Australian Geography
  • Personal Development, Health, Physical Education

At the end of Year 8, students are required to choose two elective subjects which they then study for two.

The electives are:

  • Drama
  • Dance
  • French
  • Visual Arts
  • Commerce
  • Food Technology
  • Textiles Technology
  • Music
  • Marine & Aquaculture Technology
  • Industrial Technology-Timber
  • Industrial Technology-Metal
  • Graphics Technology
  • Information & Software Technology
  • Physical Activity & Sports Studies

Please note: These elective subjects (except French) are not prerequisites for subjects offered in Year 11.
